Criminal Cases

These form the bulk of my medico-legal work.

• Sentencing.
• Fitness to plead.
• As well as preparing reports, I liaise with Local Psychiatric Services to ensure that patients receive appropriate care. As a result of my experience in working both with Forensic Services and Local Psychiatric Services I am well placed to assess the needs of mentally disordered offenders.

Mental Health Review Tribunals

• Due to the nature of my NHS work (Secure Unit) I have extensive experience of preparing MHRT reports and appearing in MHRTs.

Personal Injury

• I also accept instruction for personal injury cases.

General

• I will provide prompt reports, based on a thorough assessment of facts from as many sources as possible.
• I am always happy to discuss a case free of charge to clarify whether it falls within my area of expertise.

When instructing please provide the following:

For criminal cases

• Letter of instruction.
• Confirmation of Legal Aid funding.
• Witness Statements.
• Police interview transcripts.
• Summary of previous convictions.
• Medical records.
• Any other medical/psychiatric reports.
• Probation report if available.

For Personal Injury cases

• Full GP records.
• All medical records relating to the injury.
• Any expert reports already prepared.

For MHRT cases

• Medical and social work reports.
• Copies of Mental Health act documentation.
• Any CPA documents available.
• Recent Risk Assessments.
• Copies of medical records (many of these are now held on computer and are difficult to access on the day of a visit to see the client. Therefore it is vital you provide me with any notes you have obtained before I visit the client).
